Diakonhjemmet University College has about 2200 students and 160 faculty and staff. The core values of the college is summed up in its slogan: “Committed to People.” These values also reflects the college’s academic focus, which is centred on Health,- Social,- and Church related programs on the bachelor and master levels, and supported by ongoing research in all fields.
History and background
Diakonhjemmet University College was established in 1890. The University College is a diaconal foundation within the Norwegian Lutheran church and consists from the date of 1 Jan 2006 of two campuses: Oslo and Rogaland. Campus Oslo is located to the same site as much of the rest of the activities within The Foundation of “Det Norske Diakonhjem”.
Campus Rogaland draws its histoy back to 1969 when the primary owner founded the school of social educators in connection to the regional institustion at Nærland for mentally retarded people. Campus Rogaland has its main campus in the town called Sandnes, but with a branch campus in Haugesund.
The aim of the UC
Diakonhjemmet University College aims to practice a holistic philosophy, viewing the human being as a unity of spirit, soul and body, created in the image of God, interwoven with others in social and economic structures on local, national and global basis. The College stresses the importance of interdiciplinary expertise, and makes the efforts to combine proffesional and academic aspirations with their practical application.
